Los prolegómenos de la fotografía en Ciudad Juárez. Del daguerrotipo a la cámara fotográfica, una semblanza histórica para el quehacer periodístico universitario

Abstract

This article exposes the arrival and opening of the photographic studios in Paso del Norte (today Ciudad Juárez), from 1870, businesses that were established in the main streets of the old town where their novel presence began a practice directed towards a well-defined social stratum. With the first incursions of the daguerreotype – an invention that arrived in Mexico at the end of 1839 – a capture of amazement was achieved by society, which later welcomed printed photography. Once the invention of the daguerreotype was overcome, photographic equipment went through a more compact process and diversified in some of its characteristics, just at that moment its practice began to become popular.

Over the years, one more emanated from this trade; the itinerant photographer: activity that recorded his presence in the old Villa Paso del Norte, name that this border held since the late nineteenth century. González de la Vara (2017), shares that "On July 30, 1888, the decree was issued that changed the name of the town to Ciudad Juárez and from September 16 of that year the name change became effective." At present, the study of the daguerreotype and photography as documentary sources have become a mandatory subject for interdisciplinary academic studies of an anthropological, historical, social and journalistic nature. The construction of articles with an impact on Communication Sciences allows the student more solid approaches in the professional field.
